My Favorite Online Resources for Art Educators

There are so many online resources available for art educators. This week, I'd like to share some of my favorites!

Blogs

I've been following a few art education blogs and podcasts for a while now, so I'm happy to finally have one of my own.

The Art of Education University - This is such an amazing resource! The Art of Ed has everything from free articles written by educators, free downloads and lessons, a podcast, online professional development courses and they have just recently become a credited university.

Cassie Stephens - I love everything this art teacher creates and she generously shares just about all of it. Here you can find K-4 art lessons, DIY projects, and art inspired fashion. She also writes books, creates youtube videos, and has a podcast all about art education.

Painted Paper Art - This is a fun K-6 blog to follow. I love how organized this art teacher is. Here you can find lessons categorized by grade level, subject matter, and technique. Laura also has content available on instagram, vimeo, and pinterest.

Art Bar  - If you're looking for open-ended lessons for younger students using things you might already have around your classroom or home, this blog is perfect.

Social Media Platforms

I love using social media as a resource in my art room. I have discovered some amazing art teachers and artists through Instagram and receive professional development from their daily. Instagram is also a great way to quickly update parents on what's happening in my room.

Some accounts I love to follow in IG include...

K-5
artroomglitterfairy
mizzlee_art
2art.chambers
the_mandals_artstudio
artwithmrs.e

Middle School
ralstonmsart

High School
artofteaching

I also love using Pinterest as a tool in the art room. When planning out my lessons for the year, I like to pin projects I'd like to try or artists I'd like to use as inspiration when creating a new project. I've also used pin boards like file folders for particular lessons. For example, my students recently created artwork inspired by the famous Dutch Gardens. I created a pin board filled with images, designs, and videos to introduce our subject. This made it easy for the students to learn about the gardens, explore different ideas, and get inspired.

One of my most favorite online resources to use has to be Artsonia. I have found that it is a great way to communicate with parents, find and share lessons, promote your art program and earn money for supplies! I have been using it for the past 3 years now and although it can be a time consuming, I love having it and so do the parents. It's also a great way to keep up with lessons I've taught in the past that I may want to use again in the future. I can quickly reference past projects on the Artsonia website or pin the lessons I want to keep to a board on my Pinterest page.
